  • St David's Day at Llangollen

A lovely day at Llangollen railway celebrating St David’s Day. I was on duty so my priorities didnt include taking pictures but I did sneak a quick video of the Llangollen Silver Band playing Ar Hyd y Nos while our pannier tank 7754 (with St David Headboard) ran around to haul the 12:20 to Corwen – with the band aboard.

    This is a frame…

      The Christmas Cheshireman and Explorer

      22nd November 2025

We were treated to two tours heading to the Chester Christmas Market to day – The Cheshireman hauled by 44871 and the Explorer hauled by two Class 37’s (the leading loco was 37669)

Photos taken at Ruabon. Amazing difference 30 minutes makes – the black five came up through the mist but the 37’s came through in almost perfect light

      • Lovely photos there Peter. L:oving the B&W on the black 5, a real cold and moody shot

        • Very nice photos Peter well done good camera work as usual love the shot in the mist as 1. The mist looks like snow. 2. It looks like it’s coming out of snow

        • Eddystone passes through Helsby

Saturday 25th October. Having missed going out to see the RTC tour heading to Chester earlier in the day, I popped up to Helsby to see Eddystone plus support coach heading up to Carnforth. After long delays getting away from Chester it finally came through some 56 minutes late. Here are some pics as Eddystone approaches Helsby and passes…

        • East Lancs Autumn Steam Gala

          Sunday 20th October 2025.

I managed to get up to the East Lancs gala to try and catch some action on the last day. Early morning sun at Heywood and then rain at Bury and Rawtenstall made photography interesting but didn’t spoil the day. Plenty of steam – and, alas much smoke – on display – a good day for monochrome photography, but how I…

        • The Impossible Dream Tour

Wednesday 8th October 2025. Finally managed to see 71000, Duke of Gloucester — resplendent in its new livery – hauling the supporter’s charter train passing through Ruabon station. Trains on the line had been cancelled or delayed in the morning due to sheep on the line between Gobowen and Shrewsbury, but thankfully the charter managed to…

        • Any idea which loco is on the run from Crewe to Preston and return tomorrow – per RTT?

I’m assuming its a test run – possibly Btittania which i think is due to haul the Fellsman on Wednesday?

            • Although we had the the test on the list, there was lots of conflicting information on which loco, which is why we chose to leave it as TBC

              • Thanks Victoria agree this makes sense. I only posted the comment as, unusually, RTT actually showed it was Blue Peter on the train information once it was activated this morning
