Greater Anglia has launched a three-month trial for a trolley service on one of its routes.

Those travelling between Norwich and Stansted Airport can enjoy a range of items at their seats.

The trolley will include a range of hot and soft drinks, a range of snacks, as well as alcohol.

The idea for the trolley came from the ideas portal ‘Hares’ Lair’, which this time saw conductor Martin Neal pitch the idea.

Ideas such as the poppy livery train, an LGBTQ+ livery and increased security announcements on board trains also came from the ideas portal.

Previous successful suggestions at The Hares’ Lair include the poppy livery train, revised security announcements on trains, and an LGBTQ+ liveried train.

Over the next three months, an at-seat trolley will operate on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays on the following services:

  • 08:33 Norwich to Stansted Airport
  • 09:27 Norwich to Stansted Airport
  • 12:28 Norwich to Stansted Airport
  • 13:27 Norwich to Stansted Airport
  • 14:27 Norwich to Stansted Airport
  • 10:48 Stansted Airport to Norwich
  • 11:48 Stansted Airport to Norwich
  • 14:48 Stansted Airport to Norwich
  • 15:37 Stansted Airport to Norwich
  • 16:48 Stansted Airport to Norwich

There is some possibility for this to be extended on other services on Mondays and Tuesdays, however this is subject to availability.

“I would like to thank my colleague Martin Neal for this excellent idea. I am really pleased that we have been able to begin this trial of catering on services between Norwich and Stansted Airport.

“We are offering an at-seat trolley service on selected trains and would welcome any feedback from customers.

“Passengers can enjoy a range of refreshments on the journeys, and we hope the trial proves popular.”

Michael Wyatt, Business Manager, Greater Anglia
