A drag queen from the North East of England has starred on the new series of Ru Paul’s Drag Race, wearing a dress inspired by the new Tyne and Wear Metro trains‘ yellow colour scheme.
Sally TM is from South Shields, and designed the dress that she wore in the television show. The episode aired BBC Three on Thursday 25 September, in the show’s seventh season.
The episode is also available to watch on the BBC iPlayer.
Metro operator Nexus said it was “thrilled” that the Metro’s yellow livery had inspired the outfit.

27-year-old Sally made it through to the second week of the ten-week competition to be the UK’s next Drag Race superstar. The competition is judged by host RuPaul, with the help of regular judging panellists Michelle Visage, Alan Carr and Graham Norton, as well as celebrity guests.
Other rail operators have also embraced popular drag performers, including Govia Thameslink Railway and London Northwestern Railway.
Sally TM has been performing in drag for 10 years. She told the BBC that she wanted to “represent all of those Geordie queens who are ingenuities, creative, a bit clowny, and a bit kooky. I want to showcase that anyone who has an alternative bone in their body can make it on to Drag Race.”

“The dress was entirely inspired by the new Metro trains and I hope that the viewers liked it.
“It was such a huge honour for me to be able to appear on Ru Paul’s Drag Race, which is an iconic show and one that I have always wanted to appear on.
“I’ve lived in South Shields all my life and I always get the Metro to Newcastle to meet friends and get to work. I thought to myself it would be great to pay homage to the Metro as it was the first ultra modern light rail system un the country. I did just that with my lovely yellow dress.
“It’s quite a sleek and modern design that I came up with. It’s like a kind of retro futurism in its appearance. I had this dress made especially for going on the show. I really love the yellow of the Metro and wanted to pay tribute to something which has been so instrumental and iconic in the story of our region.”
