Just returned from another disappointing trip to see and photograph one of our mainline steam locomotives. I waited on Sherburn-in-Elmet station in the boiling sunshine only to see 60163 Tornado being dragged backwards by a 47 on the return leg of ‘The White Rose’. I have seen Bahamas, Braunton and now Tornado in the same situation at the same location. Why are these beautiful steam locos so unreliable? I can’t remember seeing them being dragged around in steam days, or maybe they were and I just never saw them.. Perhaps too much time is spent cleaning and polishing instead of maintaining them properly. Anybody know why it failed?
Having a quick look at the timings it was scheduled to reverse at Gascoigne Wood, using the triangle to turn the train
Tornado will be going onto the turntable in York
