  1. Oh dear – what has happened to the once mighty West Coast Railways (based at what was called Steamtown)?
    They appear to have no working steam engines based at Carnforth but nevertheless “fell out” with Tornado’s operators so that one is no longer there either.
    Even the Jacobite Ft William to Mallaig train is no longer guaranteed to be steam – I was there a couple of weeks ago, and the afternoon train was diesel hauled every day, since they appear to have only one working steam loco available. If I had booked this supposedly steam excursion the several months in advance that now seems to be required, I’d have been most put out to be hauled by a diesel.
