From the 1st September, ScotRail is set to scrap its peak fare option for customers.
Back in May, the Scottish Government announced it would be making train fares simpler and more flexible.
They are aiming to make rail travel more accessible and value for money to encourage people to travel by train instead of by car.
The removal of these fares will see large savings for customers, with some journey prices reducing in cost by 50%.
No matter what time customers travel or day of the week, customers will pay the same fare, with some of the return fare savings including:
- Edinburgh to Glasgow – £16.80 – 48% saving
- Glasgow to Stirling – £10.80 – 40% saving
Some areas will see no change in prices as there is no off-peak fare available.
The ScotRail app will be updated on the 22nd August, where peak fare options will be removed for travel from the 1st September.
Other tickets will also get an update, including their Season Tickets, Flexipass Tickets, and Super Off-Peak Day Return Tickets.
Further information will be available on the ScotRail website and app from the 22nd August
“Public ownership has created the opportunity to deliver a railway which is run for the benefit of the nation. ScotRail is one of the fastest growing operators, with one of the best passenger satisfaction rates and we are building even further on this success by removing peak fares for good.
“We want more people to choose to travel by public transport for work, study and leisure but we know that many are still struggling with cost-of-living pressures. By removing peak fares, we are making ticketing more simple and more straightforward while at the same time supporting a shift towards sustainable public transport, protecting the climate, and saving people money.”
Fiona Hyslop MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Transport
