ScotRail is set to restore a full timetable at Glasgow Central station from Wednesday, 25 March, marking a significant step toward normality after weeks of disruption.

The reopening follows the completion of work to bring all high-level platforms, 1 to 15, back into use after a fire in a nearby Union Street building forced partial closures.

Services had been running on a reduced schedule since the incident, with only a limited number of routes reinstated last week. From Wednesday, however, key lines linking Glasgow with destinations such as Edinburgh, Paisley Canal, Newton, and Neilston will return to their regular frequency.

Previously altered routes to coastal and southern destinations, including Ardrossan Harbour and Carlisle, will also revert to normal operations.

While the full timetable resumes, passengers are being urged to check journeys in advance, as minor disruptions may persist while trains are repositioned across the network. Staff will be available to assist and update passengers.

The reopening comes after extensive safety inspections by Glasgow City Council and Network Rail, alongside ongoing demolition work at the fire-damaged site.

Some station entrances, including those on Gordon Street and Union Street, remain closed, with access maintained via Hope Street, the carriage driveway, and low-level concourses.

“This is excellent news for our customers, and I am very pleased we will be able to resume our normal timetable when Glasgow Central High Level reopens for business on Wednesday.

“We understand how frustrating the closure has been for customers whose journeys have been disrupted, and we’re very sorry for the impact it has had.

“The safety of our customers and staff is our priority, and the decision to reopen the high level has only been taken following comprehensive safety checks by Glasgow City Council and Network Rail.

“We know some people will be travelling by rail for the first time since the fire, so we will have staff on hand at Glasgow Central and across the network to support customers and answer any questions.”

David Ross, ScotRail Chief Operating Officer.
