Commuters and visitors will soon enjoy faster, easier journeys to Greenwich town centre as Cutty Sark station prepares to reopen following a major upgrade.
The station will reopen on Monday, 23 March, earlier than planned, just in time for the busy London Marathon period and the Easter holidays.
The refurbishment includes four new heavy-duty escalators designed to improve reliability and handle higher passenger numbers for years to come, which are undergoing final testing ahead of reopening.
During the closure, Transport for London (TfL) also delivered a range of improvements across the station. These include a new lift for quicker and more reliable step-free access, brighter white wall coverings, and energy-efficient LED lighting throughout.

Safety upgrades such as a new fire detection system have also been installed, while all customer areas have been deep-cleaned.
Passengers will also notice a more open feel thanks to a raised ceiling above the upper escalators, along with new artwork created with Visit Greenwich, celebrating the local area.
The project forms part of Transport for London’s wider programme to modernise stations across the network, creating brighter, safer and more accessible spaces for passengers. Some smaller finishing works will continue outside operating hours once the station reopens.
“It’s fantastic to see this major upgrade at Cutty Sark DLR station being delivered earlier than expected, meaning Londoners and visitors will soon be able to enjoy quicker and easier journeys to and from Greenwich town centre. The Mayor and I feel strongly that everyone should be able to enjoy everything our great city has to offer, so public transport network improvements like this are vital as we continue building a fairer, greener, better London for everyone.”
Seb Dance, London’s Deputy Mayor for Transport.
“We are delighted that the DLR station at Cutty Sark is re-opening well on schedule. As our most important transport hub this will bring a much-needed increase in footfall to our town centre and World Heritage Site as we launch a packed spring and summer season.”
Barrie Kelly, CEO of Visit Greenwich.
