Network Rail is advising passengers travelling between Aylesbury and London via Great Missenden to plan ahead over the Easter bank holiday weekend due to disruption caused by HS2 construction works.
Following last year’s installation of the 345-metre Small Dean Viaduct near Wendover, engineers are now preparing to lay around 4,000 tonnes of stone to support the future high-speed line where it will cross the existing railway.
To carry out the work, the line will be closed for four days, from Friday, 3 April to Monday, 6 April. During this time, replacement bus services will run between Aylesbury and Great Missenden, and passengers are strongly advised to check their journeys before travelling.

The viaduct scheme has already reached several key engineering milestones, including a 4,500-tonne deck slide completed in 2025, one of the largest of its kind on the HS2 programme. Featuring five Y-shaped piers, the structure uses a mix of steel and concrete to improve durability and reduce carbon emissions.
Further disruption is expected, with no Chiltern Railways services operating between Marylebone and Amersham on 7 and 8 April, along with reduced shuttle services.
Journeys should be checked online before travelling.
“I’d like to thank Chiltern Railways’ customers for their patience while our work to construct HS2 – Britain’s new high-speed railway continues in Buckinghamshire.
“While engineers complete major work at Wendover over the Easter bank holiday weekend, we’re urging passengers to check before they travel with National Rail Enquiries.”
Patrick Cawley, Director of On Network Works for Network Rail and HS2.
“I would like to thank our customers for their patience while the HS2 work is being carried out.
“I urge our customers in the area to check their journeys during this closure as they will be disrupted and may involve a rail replacement bus.”
Michael Stewart, Commercial & Customer Strategy Director at Chiltern Railways.
