A fallen tree at Penkridge means that trains have been suspended all day today and is affecting trains between Stafford and Wolverhampton.

Disruption is expected to last until the end of the day today, and passengers are being asked to consider alternative travel arrangements.

Passengers have been informed that ticket acceptance is in place with CrossCountry, London Northwestern Railway and TransPennine Express for Avanti West Coast passengers.

CrossCountry passengers can use tickets with Avanti West Coast, Great Western Railway, London Northwestern Railway, London Underground, South Western Railway, Transport for Wales, West Midlands Metro and West Midlands Railway.

“Strong winds overnight brought down a tree in the Penkridge area which has unfortunately damaged the overhead wires.

“Our teams are working as quickly as possible to assess the extent of the damage and make the necessary repairs. Services in this area are likely to be disrupted.”

Martin Colmey, operations director for Network Rail Central
