Today, Sunday, Network Rail advises that there are no trains between Gunnislake and Bere Alston due to a “fault with the signalling system”. This is unacceptable for travelling public. Studying the timetables clearly shows that a “one loco in steam” is operating. With only a single train operating as a shuttle, there is no reason why the Signaller (at Plymouth ?) cannot allow operation, even if his board LCD screen signal lights are like Blackpool Illuminations will not affect the safety of the train. Of course in olden days no problem with independent signal boxes and their staff.
