Do Not Travel: Emergency services attend train derailment in Cumbria

The emergency services are attending a derailment at Shap in Cumbria, with all lines blocked.

North West Ambulance Service say “Following reports of a train derailment near Shap in Cumbria, the trust has dispatched resources to the scene. We are currently assessing the situation and working with other members of the emergency services.”

MP for Westmorland & Lonsdale, Tim Farron, said “I’m deeply concerned to hear the news coming out of Shap this morning. My thoughts are with everyone on board the train and the emergency service workers who are now on the scene.”

For rail passengers, there is major disruption to Avanti West Coast and TransPennine Express services. Major disruption is expected until the end of the day.

Avanti West Coast have a Do Not Travel notice for passengers heading above Preston.

Northbound services will run between London and Preston only, whilst southbound services between Edinburgh / Glasgow and London will be cancelled.

TransPennine Express say that trains will run between Glasgow / Edinburgh and Carlisle, as well as Preston (Lancs) and Liverpool Lime Street / Manchester Airport.

Ticket acceptance is in place with CrossCountry, London North Eastern Railway, ScotRail, Northern and TransPennine Express.
