Network Rail has successfully completed upgrade works to the Mitre Bridge level crossing.
They worked during the October half-term to reduce disruption, which has allowed them to renew the rail, sleepers, signalling and drainage equipment at the crossing.
The section of line between Clapham Junction and Willesden Junction was closed for four days and reopened yesterday morning (29th October).
The work allowed the speed restriction to be lifted and will now allow for a more reliable service to run.
While the line was closed, they also worked to renew 2,000 metres of power cables between Clapham Junction and West Brompton. They upgraded track switches and another at Kensington Olympia.
“I’d like to thank passengers, freight customers, local businesses and local residents for their patience while we carried out this important work to keep Mitre Bridge level crossing safe and reliable for rail and road users.
“This upgrade not only improves safety but also helps us deliver better journeys by removing a speed restriction and future-proofing this vital piece of railway.”
Neil O’Toole, senior programme manager at Network Rail
