CrossCountry has released its Sustainability Strategy for 2025.
The strategy highlights their 10-year plan to make the railway not only more inclusive but also resilient and low-carbon.
They have set targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative, including a commitment to cut emissions by 63% by 2035.
The strategy emphasises three pillars: People, Places, and Planet.
They plan to create a more diverse and inclusive workforce and make travel more accessible to everyone.

They will support communities and restore habitats while making a considerable effort to reduce waste, carbon, and water use to shrink their footprint on the planet.
Each pillar has been given a 12-month update and features a short-term and long-term plan for each section.
For example, within their water section, they have explained how they have installed flow and temperature metres at numerous sites. This will help them better understand their consumption and how to reduce their use of such a finite resource.
With future plans to harvest rainwater for train washing.
The full strategy can be found on their website.

“This strategy reflects the issues that matter most to our colleagues, customers and stakeholders.
“Aligning our operations with the latest climate science – while embedding social value and resilience into everything we do – means we’re building a railway that’s fit for the future.”
Jessica Lockwood, CrossCountry’s Environment & Sustainability Manager

Responses
Crosscountry needs to sort out the basic problem with the trains in use at the moment, how is running diesel Voyager sets along lines with electric OLE sustainable. The press release is just more management PR drivel. They need to invest in bi-mode new longer trains to improve the passenger experience onboard. The class 170 DMUs need replacing by longer newer trains.
As you say Phil, complete and utter drivel.
Paper over the cracks, now there’s a policy for the future…..!
