The first tram to be supplied by Stadler to The Netherlands was unveiled at The Hague on Friday, 12th September by Stadler and the city’s public transport operator HTM.

Stadler has a contract to supply 62 TINA trams to HTM. They will feature an innovative drive system in the largest contract for TINA trams worldwide, although Stadler has supplied TINA trams to Basel in Switzerland, and Darmstadt, Halle, and Rostock in Germany, and is drawing on the experience gained in the design and production of trams in those cities for those to be supplied to The Hague.

The vehicles are 36.5 metres long and can accommodate 237 passengers. Completely step-free access is through the use of a fully integrated low-floor drive system, with all drive, brake and chassis components located under the floor.

The innovative drive system provides space for extra seating and the provision of large panoramic windows. Multifunctional areas are provided for prams and wheelchairs, and a powerful air conditioning system ensures maximum comfort for passengers.

The TINA trams are being designed in Switzerland and built at Siedlce in Poland. They are part of a substantial investment by the ‘Rotterdam The Hague Metropolitan Region’ to modernise sustainably the region’s public transport to meet the region’s expansion, with its consequent increase in jobs, homes, and residents.

The TINA tram provides efficient operation and is part of a substantial investment made by HTM. They will undergo 12 months of testing and commissioning before gradually replacing existing vehicles from 2026 onwards.

Peter Spuhler, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Stadler, commented at the vehicle presentation in The Hague, the TINA tram is barrier-free, spacious and comfortable. It is tailored it entirely to a wide range of passenger needs in The Hague, and the company can’t wait to see the trams entering passenger service next summer.

“We are pleased with the arrival of the Tina trams. They allow us to offer our passengers fully accessible and sustainable public transport. In doing so, we contribute to the mobility of the future in the Haaglanden region.”

Jaap Bierman, CEO of HTM
