The Weardale Railway is hosting an afternoon tea with a view for visitors to enjoy.

One will be held on the 13th September, leaving from Bishop Auckland, and the second on the 18th October, leaving from Stanhope.

The afternoon tea train will offer a selection of sandwiches and cakes all wrapped up in a box, where the train will pause at Etherley Viaduct or Broadwood, crossing the River Wear.

There is also a VIP option where guests will be welcomed with a glass of prosecco.

Tickets for the train can be bought in multiples of two or four, with both premier and VIP packages.

Special dietary requirements can be noted upon ticket purchase, with tickets available here.

Further information on this event and Weardale’s other events can be found online.

“We’re delighted to offer this experience which celebrates local food and drink while giving people a chance to relax and take in the stunning views of Weardale. It’s a special way for friends, families, and visitors to spend time together.”

Claire Gibbons, General Manager of Weardale Railway

  1. An interesting offer but when I investigated booking two tickets for October, only the VIP option was available for £100 each. £200 for two people, seated at a table for 4, seems a bit steep to me, for just a box of sandwiches and cakes, and a journey along probably just half to line from Stanhope to Bishop Auckland. On a lot of other preserved railways you can get a 3 or 4 course lunch or dinner served for this sort of money. I wonder how many people will take up this offer?
