Thousands of people are returning to work following the summer holidays.
Northern has seen an increased demand for their season train tickets, which are mainly used by those who travel to work by train.
The demand for the ticket has risen by almost 10% in the last year, with the number of annual and monthy season tickets sold rising by 13%.
The demand for weekly and flexi season tickets has also increased by 4%.
With the season tickets, Northern sees around 175,000 journeys made each week.
Additionally, in Leeds, peak-time travellers have increased by 9% in the morning and 8% in the evening.
Northern has been providing extra carriages for peak services to help meet the higher demand.
“Our stable performance is increasing both customer confidence and satisfaction, leading to continued growth in people choosing to travel by train.
“Furthermore, there have been some big shifts in travel patterns since the pandemic and this is further empahised by the fact that more commuters are now returning to the office.
“We constantly review data on passenger journeys to ensure we can meet this growing demand, especially on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, which tend to be the busiest days for peak-time travel.
“It’s so important that we continue to provide a range of tickets to those looking to save money on their commute, with season tickets for a week, a month or a year.”
