A £2 million project to upgrade the drainage system at Goole station has been completed.
Network Rail has thanked people for their patience during the upgrades to the subway’s drainage system.
Before the upgrades, the pedestrian subway was prone to blockages, resulting in high levels of flooding and preventing accessibility to the station.
To improve this, they installed two independently operating pumping stations and a water holding tank.
The new system is more flood resilient and can handle higher volumes of rainfall, which will help keep the subway open.
This will also reduce the amount of maintenance costs, and should flooding still occur, it is a much quicker fix than previous attempts.
“This upgrade marks a significant step forward in improving safety and accessibility at Goole station.
“We’re grateful to the local community for their patience and support throughout the work – this co-operation has been invaluable in allowing us to complete this important upgrade with minimal disruption.”
Matt Shelton, Network Rail route engineer
