On the 24th August, Southeastern is inviting families and rail fans to get a glimpse behind Ashford’s Train Maintenance Depot as part of their Railway 200 celebrations.

They announced the open day in July, and with just a few days to go before the one-day event, there are still some tickets available.

There will be family-friendly activities, miniature roundabout rides, and displays of model Hornby trains.

Visitors will get to see some of the behind-the-scenes work and learn about the history of heritage trains, including locomotives such as Clan Line.

There will also be stands and activities from a range of visiting businesses.

Ticket sale profits will be donated to the 5 Railway 200 charities, as well as covering the cost of the event.

The event is open from 10 am til 4 pm and tickets are available here.

“It is very rare that we can open our doors to families and residents, and we are excited to show the incredible work that goes on behind the scenes in one of the most important depots in the south east.

“We hope this event will inspire young minds to consider a rewarding career in the railway as well as providing a fun and interesting day for the whole family.”

Jim Shead, Ashford Depot Manager, Southeastern
