From the 6th to 8th September and the 13th and 14th September, Network Rail Wales and Borders will be undertaking engineering works.

The work will be taking place at key points along the railway between Hereford, Newport and Shrewsbury.

The work will include carrying out drainage and level crossing maintenance between Cwmbran and Maindee and upgrades to drainage and track at St Juliand and Tram Inn.

Additionally, they will be carrying out earthworks and drainage at Little Stretton, working on the points and signalling at Panteg and Pontypool.

Lastly, they will be managing vegetation across the whole section.

The work will keep the line running smoothly and safely; however, it will result in sections of the line being closed, including:

  • Newport, via Hereford, to Shrewsbury
  • Maindee to Cwmbran, Pontypool and Panteg
  • Sutton Bridge Junction (Shrewsbury) to Bromfield, Craven Arms and Church Stretton

Replacement bus services will be in place, and passengers are being advised to plan their journey and check ahead online.
