Last week, Pecorama celebrated its 50th birthday with a day of nostalgia and spirit.
On the 16th of July, they welcomed back Thomas Jr. and Little Nell, two engines from their early days that brought back memories.
Thomas was part of a reenactment of the first journey on the Beer and Heights Light Railway.
Rev. Wilbert Awdry’s grandson Richard Awdry joined in the celebrations and brought the story of the railway full circle, as it was the Rev. who opened Pecorama 50 years ago.
Richard made a speech containing a message from his father, Christopher, and then planted a commemorative tree in the gardens at Pecorama.
Chairman Michael Pritchard also reflected on Pecorama’s journey to a crowd made up of school children and guests who have been returning for decades.
“Congratulations Beer Heights Light Railway on your 50th Birthday. We always much enjoyed our visits wandering around the beautiful gardens. We know that the engines have been enjoying themselves for several years since then. We offer our best wishes and smooth running for the next 50 years and more.”
