Network Rail is advising those travelling between Ipswich and Halesworth to check before they travel.

This is due to crucial work taking place on the line, which will affect train services on three weekends this August.

During the work, they will be strengthening two bridges over the River Alde and the River Deben and carrying out general maintenance work on the track between Wickham Market and Saxmundham.

They will also be removing excess materials and equipment from the line and preparing for future work at Bealings and Woodbridge.

Lastly, they will carry out some follow-up track work at Darsham level crossing.

This work will allow the railway to run much more smoothly and reliably in the long term.

The work requires engineers to be on the track so buses will be replacing services between Ipswich and Halesworth on:

  • Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 August
  • Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 August
  • Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 August

Further information on journey exchanges can be checked online.

“We’re delivering essential upgrades along the East Suffolk Line to improve reliability and futureproof the route for years to come. From bridge strengthening to preparing for major renewals and supporting the Sizewell C project, this is a vital investment in our infrastructure. Thank you to passengers and communities for bearing with us while this work is carried out.”

Simon Milburn, infrastructure director for Network Rail Anglia
