Lynton and Barnstaple Railway have announced that since they were granted planning permission for their carriage shelter, work has now begun.

Contractors arrived at Woody Bay just a few days ago and began work on building the gabion wall along the site.

Once completed, they will then move on to working on the foundation for the structure, followed by steel framing.

From there, they will install the roofing and wooden boarding.

They chose now to begin to allow for most of the main work to be completed before they begin 7-day operations during the school holidays.

This also ensures that the shelter will be in working order before the colder weather hits.

The railway still has an ongoing carriage appeal, which is now at 75% complete, to help them take care of their unique carriages. Further information and donations can be found here.
