A community-led project which united young people, ScotRail, and local partners has resulted in the area around Camelon station being transformed.
The Camelon Railway Station Biodiversity and Community Art Project has seen the station’s access path turned into a vibrant gallery and biodiversity corridor.
The project was led by the Safer Communities Youth Action Project (SCYAP), transforming the area, which was previously affected by fly-tipping.
The project saw a nature-themed stencilled mural on the station’s footbridge and colourful totem poles installed.

Wildflower beds, bird boxes and bug hotels were also installed to increase biodiversity.
Previously impacted by fly-tipping and litter, the area is now a safer and more attractive route for those who use the station.
For the project, over 40 local children played a part and developed skills and confidence.
The project was supported by ScotRail, Network Rail, Carmuirs Primary School, and Falkirk Council.
“This is a great example of our Youth Action approach, delivering multiple benefits for young people, building skills, earning awards, and strengthening community connections while also creating wider impacts through climate action and environmental improvements.
“A wide array of young people were involved throughout, from Carmuirs Primary’s P7 class helping shape the design, to community consultations and the final installation led by our Youth Action Group.
“SCYAP is grateful for the support of ScotRail and Network Rail in bringing this project to life.”
John R Hosie, SCYAP Youth & Community Development Worker
