The Tanfield Railway is the oldest railway in the world, at 300 years old.

Thanks to its dedicated volunteers who have worked tirelessly to make the railway thrive year after year.

Everyone who has helped the railway and the community is ready to see the railway celebrated in a new documentary.

On the 15th July at 7 pm, the BBC will air a new episode of the Our Lives series, named The World’s Oldest Railway.

The theme highlights their efforts to restore engines and pass down skills to the next generation, all while they prepare for their big events.

The documentary lets people meet Peter and Bob, who restored the railway in the 1970s, and young volunteers Sophie, Tom, and Dave.

People watching can see how they are restoring Twizell, a 1891 locomotive built by Robert Stephenson & Co.

They filmed a journey on the railway while meeting the volunteers and hearing their stories about why they became so dedicated.
