Avanti West Coast has invested nearly £1 million into improving Wigan North Western station.
They worked with Network Rail to redesign the main entrance, featuring wider doors, ticket machine relocation, a fresh coat of paint and new lighting and CCTV.
As part of the redesign, they also added ticket gates at the entrance.
They aimed to create new jobs with the project, and they have been successful in this, with eight new jobs.
During this entrance revamp, they also relocated the customer information areas and installed a new retail space and an accessible toilet on platform 4.

As part of the project, they also installed a photographic mural, which was unveiled last month to brighten up the space and celebrate Railway 200.
“As part of our commitment to improve the experience for our customers, we want our stations to be welcoming environments. The redesigned entrance and platform areas at Wigan North Western offer brighter spaces and make it easier for our customers to get the help they need.
“The addition of our new Welcome Hosts will bring extra reassurance by being friendly faces – greeting customers and supporting with any queries. We’d like to thank our staff and customers for their patience while we carried out these works and hope they enjoy the new look and feel we’ve brought to the station.”
