An upgrade to Alfreton station began in February last year and was mainly completed two months ago.
After completing some additional work, the £6.75 million project is now officially complete and was celebrated with an official opening on the 23rd July.
The project saw new lifts, ramp, and steps, were installed, platforms were resurfaced, and CCTV and lighting were upgraded thanks to funding from the Department for Transport’s Access for All scheme.
The opening event was held at the station and was attended by community representatives, project partners and local dignitaries.
“The improvements delivered at Alfreton are already making a huge difference to everyone who uses the station. We’re very pleased that more people can travel to and from here with confidence, regardless of their mobility needs.
“These upgrades have made the station not only more accessible but also much more welcoming. The project provides a great example of how investment in our railway can have a significant and lasting positive impact on people’s lives.“
