Network Rail contractor BAM have successfully installed the final section of a new footbridge at Darlington station.
The footbridge was part of a £140 million redevelopment project which included connecting the Victorian station with its new eastern entrance and platforms.
Platforms 5 and 6 and the eastern concourse building will be fully connected to the original station, with all four structural steel sections now in place.
The first two major components were installed back in February, followed by the two recently.

This new connection between stations will allow for new facilities to be built and make access easier for passengers.
The new platforms will also allow better management of trains and ensure they can keep them running on time with additional services.
To build the new concourse and entrance hall, Network Rail, LNER, Tees Valley Combined Authority, Darlington Council, and the Department for Transport partnered with and provided the funding.
Further stages will be completed in the coming months, including a new station entrance with a transport interchange and car park.
The project is on target for its estimated finish in December 2025.
“The installation of the final sections of the footbridge marks another important step forward in this crucial project. While there is still work to be done to make the bridge fully operational, this progress keeps us firmly on track for our December completion. We’re grateful to all station users for their continued patience.”
