Network Rail is reminding passengers of work beginning Saturday, 7th June, which will continue for 5 weekends.

The weekend work will affect services between Leeds and York, so passengers are urged to check before they travel.

For the weekends of work (7th-8th June, 14th-15th June, 21st-22nd June, 28th-29th June, and 5th-6th July), services between Leeds and York and between Leeds and Selby will be diverted via Castleford.

Local stations affected by the planned work will be covered by rail replacement bus services to ensure people can get to their destinations.

The Transpennine Route Upgrade work will see the next phase of electrification between Church Fenton and Leeds, which will increase train speeds and the Cross Gates Station Road bridge demolished (14th and 15th June) before a new bridge is put in place (5th and 6th July).

The new bridge will allow for the future installation of overhead powerlines for the planned electrification.

On the 5th and 6th July, other bridge work will be underway near Church Fenton, where new girders for the new Rose Lane highway bridge will be installed.

Track renewal work will be underway on the 21st, 22nd, 28th and 29th June between Cross Gates and Killingbeck. 750 metres of track will be replaced to create smoother journeys, and new track points will be added.

Passengers can check online before they travel on the National Rail website.

“This series of weekend upgrades will see us make progress on projects that will provide huge benefits for rail users – track renewals will make journeys smoother and more reliable, whilst major work on Cross Gates bridge takes us a step closer to electrification.

“The demolition of the bridge in Cross Gates also means that Station Road will be closed to traffic in both directions between 12-16 June and 3-7 July. Road diversions will be in place, so we suggest visiting roadworks.org to plan your journey. Pedestrian access and access to businesses will remain in place throughout.

“Our teams are making great strides throughout the North, and the upcoming weekend work throughout Yorkshire will help us deliver better train travel throughout the region and across the Pennines.”
