Anyone have any April Fools Day ideas?

HS2 to finish under budget and 30 years earlier than expected, Ordsal Chord not a white elephant, or all ticketing and fares to make some sense?

@johns HS2 is a white elephant, as it’s now just a fast line to Birmingham. Currently you can go from Manchester to London in two hours and not much longer from Preston, especially if you catch the Lancastrian service. Tickets should be better when GBR is fully operational outside of the metropolitan areas. The multitude of tickets operates means that too many people want a cut, through ticketing is a minefield for operators

@johns …and be completed into South & West Yorkshire’s major cities, with a direct link to the ECML close to Colton Jn. or following the long closed route through Ripon to serve the north east.

@DavidFS they should have reused the great central line route, using the woodhead route to Manchester, the track bed is still available and there is still space coming off the woodhead route and into Manchester.

We will see, I have no faith in GBR, the unions will use it as excuse to not modernise and hold passengers to ransom. BR was an utter fiasco, privatisation was a mess, but it did draw people to the railways.

@johns yes that’s possibly could be the case, unions can cause problems if handled poorly and GBR needs to play happy families to get them on board. A lot of problems with privatised train companies it that the profits leave the company instead of reinvesting. A unified National Railway system should reduce route duplication and put more more trains where needed
