(Rail's Doomsday clock)!
So much talk of infringement of EU states and talk of war! We send warships to sea! We poke the Hornets nest once too often! For my daft yarns to become reality? Pre mapping of all our incoming Fuel lines and communication network are severed by heavy seabed anchor? And submersible craft? We sit on our own! Our sea going ships loose that fuel dependency! Or be sent to Davey Jones locker? What fuel is stored is for emergency vehicles only! All diesel / Electric loco’s are mothballed? So a war council Commandeers All Heritage steam engines for immediate use! And to pump out and reopen a coal mine! Long distant inter City transportation only! And the busiest most populated Branch networks are selected! The country takes to the pushbike! We have drivers! But you will be called up to fire to them! And so the story starts!! I myself reckon I could manage 10 mile of firing on a good day? But you younger people can have the Flying Scotsman, Castles, And and an army of other restored sorts in the land! Fracking will take time? Those with Solar panels will have light and possibly Electric car use? But the clicking stops on our Doomsday clock! for a new way, and the new story to begin! ‘Bags’ I get Leander Or an A4 on the Westcountry runs! What will you have??😅

Well the East Lancashire Heritage Railway will be in a good position to pull the trams around Manchester at the metro system is guaged to BR standards so any of the small tank engines will be able to be used with ease. We still have plenty of coal under Lancashire and there is still a workable mine west of Manchester that now runs as a museum.

But they condemn our own fossil fuels, (on are own doorstep)! To import from others like Poland or Russia etc, etc, Before establishing the safe alternative! They would have us to run, before we can walk! For the vast majority of us to constantly fall over huge household heating bills?

@nostalgia The East Lancashire Railway has for the majority of its route from Bury to Rawtenstall has the river Irwell next to it and if dammed in places could easily produce hydro power. I once had a customer near Portlock Hill in Devon who brought an old water mill and replaced the mill wheels with a generator and produced his own electricity.
