Those in Metheringham are being reminded to be safe at level crossings, especially as more people visit or attend weekly car boot sales.
Since their popular car boot sales last ran, the timetable has changed, meaning that the village now has up to six freight trains running on the line between Lincoln and Sleaford.
The sales resume on the 5th April, so Network Rail is encouraging people to remain vigilant, follow signs and associated lights.
There are multiple level crossings in the area, with a particular reminder for those using Martin Road crossing, which has poor visibility.
The crossing is popular with cyclists, and those using it should use the phone at the crossing to get permission to cross.
“It’s really important that everyone using level crossings in and near Metheringham stays alert now that timetabled trains are running through here on Sundays for the first time in many years.
“Freight services, diverted passenger trains and engineering trains can pass through at any time, and the safest way to cross is always to follow the signs and instructions at each crossing. We’re reminding people heading to and from the car boot sale – as well as cyclists, walkers and horse riders – to follow the instructions so they can cross safely. Please follow the signs, obey warning lights and alarms, and never take risks.”
