A first look at the new station set to be built in Golborne next year has been revealed.
A fly-through video has been created to show how the £32 million station will be built and what it will look like.
The proposal for the station received lots of public support, with the plans being approved in April 2025.
The area currently has no direct train, tram or bus services to Manchester, and this station will cut travel time massively, which is likely why it has had lots of public support.
The station project is being delivered by Transport for Greater Manchester in partnership with Wigan Council and Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA).
Engineering firm Murphy has developed the station’s design based on the public’s feedback.
It will have two accessible platforms, with walking and cycling links, and seamless bus and train connections.
In early 2026, a full business case will be submitted to the Department for Transport, and if approved, construction will start in the summer.
“This is the next major milestone for Golborne train station, with the latest designs showcasing the transformation that’s on the way, with a station right at the heart of this community.
“Golborne will play a vital role in our ambitious plans to make travel across Greater Manchester easier, greener, simpler and more connected.
“This forms part of our plans to expand the Bee Network, with 64 stations joining by 2028 and a further 32 by 2030 – a major step towards delivering a fully integrated transport system for our city-region. I’m pleased that, after decades of being cut off from our train network, Golborne will be at the heart of the change.”
Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester
