The Bury Standard 4 Group, owners of Class 4 tank No. 80097 and Ivatt Class 2 Mogul No. 46428, have completed a boiler lift on the Class 2.
The boiler was lifted and turned upside down by staff members of the East Lancashire Railway before ending up on a former carriage bogie for it to be moved into the workshop.
This will enable the foundation ring at the bottom of the firebox to be removed and examined to determine whether it can be reused or replaced with a new one.

Members of the Bury Standard 4 Group have also moved the loco’s wheels so the crane could lift 46428’s driving wheels and leading axle wheels into their new storage space, where work can be undertaken on their surface finish following their re-tiring. They will be reunited with the axle boxes once the work on them has been completed.

In addition to this, the East Lancashire Railway has also lifted a 15-ton wide goods van, originally from a building site in Preston. The Bury Standard 4 Group also own this van and is planning to restore it as a grounded body.
