Greater Manchester’s tram network is set for upgrades for the Easter weekend, and passengers are being reminded to plan ahead.

The upgrades are part of a larger £150 million investment into the network, and this installation will see over 1km of track replaced on the Altrincham line.

Additional preparatory work will also take place between Trafford Bar and Deansgate-Castlefield to allow for full track replacement.

The work means that there will be no tram services running along the Altrincham, Eccles and Trafford Park lines from the 3rd to 6th April.

Other services will also be altered, so it is crucial that journeys are checked ahead of travel.

There will be replacement buses running between all the stops impacted, and a valid Metrolink ticket will be needed to access them.

Full information on service alterations and ticket acceptance can be found on their website.

Further track work will also be taking place later in the month on the 11th and 12th of April.

“The first main upgrades of the year get under way over the Easter weekend, as our £150m programme to improve our network continues.

“We’ll be doing everything we can to minimise disruption to passengers while we carry out this essential work to ensure our tram network remains reliable, resilient and safe for years to come.

“Staff will be out across the network and replacement buses will call at all affected stops, and I would encourage our passengers to plan ahead using the Bee Network app and website. Our social media channels are also a great way of keeping up to date with all the latest travel information.”

Ian Davies, TfGM’s Network Director for Metrolink
