To mark World Hearing Day on 3 March 2026, Hull Trains has partnered with Hull & East Yorkshire Centre for the Deaf to launch a powerful short film promoting empathy and inclusion for people living with hearing loss.

The film follows three members of the deaf community as they travel from Hull to London King’s Cross, sharing their experiences of travelling with a disability while highlighting the care provided by the onboard team.

Featuring British Sign Language, the film has been released across Hull Trains’ social media channels and includes onboard host Gordon Wright, who is currently learning BSL.

The collaboration also includes Deaf Awareness training for Hull Trains colleagues, delivered by the Centre’s Residential Manager, Sarah Regan.

With one in three UK adults affected by hearing loss, and more than 2.4 million living with severe hearing loss, the campaign aims to raise awareness of disabilities that are not always visible and encourage more inclusive travel experiences.

“We were really pleased when Hull Trains approached us with this initiative. Anything that we can do to raise awareness of the challenges faced by the D/deaf community is vital. People assume that if there are screens with subtitles that ticks a box, however, they forget that the D/deaf community often has trouble reading and also that they do really enjoy personal human interaction.

“Deaf people don’t want to be ignored or pigeon-holed and they certainly haven’t been on this fantastic trip to London. I’m also delighted to support Hull Trains with a refresher course for the onboard team and management. They really care about their customers and it’s evident that want to support the community in any way they can.”
