The UK’s largest rail operator has enlisted comedian Diane Morgan to front its first-ever train safety film, aiming to tackle hundreds of avoidable injuries across its network each year.

Released by Govia Thameslink Railway, Travel Safe with Diane Morgan highlights the everyday risks passengers take in their rush to catch trains. According to new data, two people are injured daily at stations due to behaviours such as running for trains, blocking closing doors, or carrying bulky luggage on escalators.

The campaign addresses the “inner voice” many commuters experience, one that urges them to cut corners and take risks. Nearly a third of UK passengers admit this instinct has led them to unsafe decisions, despite the potential consequences.

In total, around 800 preventable injuries occur across the Govia Thameslink network each year.

Morgan’s trademark dry humour brings these scenarios to life, as she is repeatedly shown about to make common mistakes, only to be comically interrupted. The film aims to make viewers pause and reconsider their actions.

Research also reveals a gap between perception and behaviour: while a quarter of travellers have witnessed someone trapped in train doors, very few admit to doing it themselves.

“As has been well publicised, I have always been a strong advocate for rail safety. Unlike some of my comedy contemporaries, who would love to see passengers fall down stairs or get their head trapped in the closing doors, I have always made it quite clear that rail safety is my number one priority. These short films are the culmination of my life’s work. Enjoy them.”

“Most injuries we see from these behaviours are preventable and we’re committed to helping our customers travel safely. We know that people are busy, journeys can be rushed, and some of these habits are so ingrained that they stop feeling like risks at all. That’s exactly why we needed a different approach, and working with Diane gave us something powerful – a chance to make people laugh at behaviour they might recognise in themselves, and in doing so, genuinely think twice.
