On Sunday, 15 March 2026, Weardale Railway will see its historic NER autocar running alongside British Rail Class 122 ‘Bubble Car’ for the first time in the railway’s history.

The special extended timetable will operate between Stanhope and Bishop Auckland, with onward connections at Bishop Auckland with Northern services to Darlington. Passengers can board at Stanhope or Bishop Auckland West, with tickets valid for unlimited travel throughout the day. Those joining or leaving the train at intermediate stations can pay their fare onboard the service.

The event promises more than just a train ride. Visitors are encouraged to make a day of it, enjoying refreshments at Stanhope station’s café and gift shop, exploring the town’s independent shops and cafés, and soaking up the scenic beauty of the Weardale countryside.

This picture caption is wrong!. The picture shows the Autocar at Goathland Station on the N York Moors Railway, and not at anywhere on the Weardale Railway
