Back in September, on the 18th, around 7:20 am, there was a near-miss incident.
A train was travelling through Washwood Heath near Birmingham at around 36 mph, where the incident with a member of ground staff occurred.
The staff member was on the Washwood Heath Goods Loop, carrying out shunting duties on a stationary freight train.
Ordinarily, this would not be an issue; however, the loop is next to the Up Derby Slow line, which does not have much space between.
The shunter heard the horn of the train and moved to the rear of the freight train, which meant that no injury occurred.
An investigation into the incident has been launched, which will assess how staff responded, how actions led to the incident, and whether risks were assessed adequately.
