A £9 million investment into improving Grays station in Essex has been completed.
The project to improve the station’s accessibility was announced in 2023 and began in 2024.
Network Rail has installed two new lifts, providing step-free access to both platforms.
The improvements were showcased on the 1st September, with team members from Network Rail and c2c in attendance with Jen Craft, MP for Thurrock.

Network Rail worked in collaboration with c2c and contractor Octavius to complete the project, with c2c investing an additional £300,000 to upgrade the power supply, subway and evacuation procedures.
The lifts are fully operational and are the first Dual Lift Drive System, Vertical Linear Beam lifts to be installed in the UK.
Additionally, these lifts can be used during emergencies and in a power failure.
“It’s brilliant to see these new lifts installed at Grays station, thanks to Government funding, helping more people use our publicly owned railway, c2c Railway, and travel with confidence and ease.
“Our transport systems should be truly accessible and inclusive, and our Access for All programme is making real change across the country to achieve this.”
Rail Minister, Lord Hendy

Good to see Grays station now having lifts. Westcliff station does need improvements and with new lifts installed. Maybe Benfleet station could also do with lifts and the missing section on platform 2 at Basildon station to be reinstated.
