Network Rail, the Environment Agency, Wessex Water and South Gloucestershire Council are working together to help manage flood risk near Chipping Sodbury and Yate in South Gloucestershire.

They are inviting locals to attend a community drop-in event to discuss the ongoing work to try to improve flood resilience in the area.

The drop-in event is scheduled for the 29th September at Chipping Sodbury Town Hall and will be open from 4:30 pm until 7:30 pm.

Each of the organisations working on the issue will have representatives present at the event and will be available to talk to about recent and current work and future plans to manage extreme weather.

They will also be informing attendees about what they can do and will be able to answer any questions.

Our work in July saw the track raised, drainage channels cleared and a pump replaced.

“We’re now inviting everyone to come and discuss our work to develop long-term plans that will benefit the railway and local communities for decades to come.

“Excessive rainfall is now more common and we need to work together to find solutions to protect the railway and the area around it.”

George Barrett, project manager for Network Rail
