On Friday, 12th September, the Branch Line Society is running one of its most unusual tours.

The Willingdon Wickham is a very special private visit to a delightful garden railway in Willingdon, East Sussex. Host Adrian Backshall will showcase his most unusual standard-gauge railway, which is tucked away in his back garden behind a row of houses at the foot of the South Downs.

Adrian built the railway, which comprises a working train carriage on a short length of standard gauge track, during the Covid lockdown. The carriage is built on a Victorian platelayer’s trolley as a Wickham trolley lookalike ‘Old Bill’.

The event will raise money for St Wilfrid’s Hospice in Chichester, West Sussex, and tickets for the event cost £20.

The event is expected to start at 5.30 pm, and limited to 12 participants. Tea, coffee, and cakes will be available in return for a donation.

The nearest station to Willingdon is Polegate, just under 1 mile away.
