After being closed for 10 days, the Redhill to Tonbridge line reopened yesterday morning.
The closure allowed for work to be carried out to replace 13 miles of power cables between Nutfield and Leigh, reinforcing the embankment and replacing track near Edenbridge and work on structures along the line.
This work and the other jobs they have completed will allow journeys to run smoother and more reliably for years to come.
They have released a short video on the work over the bank holiday.
“I would like to thank passengers for their patience over the last ten days especially while the Redhill to Tonbridge line has been closed for vital repair work. There’s never an ideal time to do work like this, and we know how important the route is, but doing the work over a longer period during a slightly quieter time of year meant that we were able to complete more work in a shorter space of time than we would have done over multiple weekends.”
Louise Greaves, infrastructure director for Network Rail’s Sussex route
