From 30th August, a level crossing in Uppermill, Saddleworth, will close for six months.
As part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade, the Moorgate Halt level crossing will close for essential upgrade works.
The closure will allow for new signals to be installed while Huddersfield station is closed.
This does mean that some trains will be stationary on the crossing, preventing pedestrian access.
The crossing connects the Huddersfield to Manchester railway line, and an alternative route will be available during the closure.
At both Greenfield and Marsden stations, where the crossing is located between, are currently under upgrade proposals as part of the Transpennine route upgrade.
Further information on these two stations will follow once the proposals have been approved.
“Safety is our number one priority, which is why we need to temporarily close the crossing – it cannot be used safely whilst trains wait for permission to pass.
“We encourage anyone who travels through this area to plan ahead and explore alternative routes during this six-month period and thank the community for their continued support and understanding.”
Kristian Willis, senior programme manager for TRU
