On the 5th July, visitors to the West Somerset Railway can have the opportunity to travel on a HST set.

Introduced over 40 years ago, High Speed Trains (HST) remain the fastest diesel-powered trains in the world.

Previously, they have been a familiar sight across the UK; however, as electrification has become more widespread, they have been replaced wth Inter-city Express Trains (IET).

Some former HSTs have become ‘Castle Sets’ (four coaches with a power car at each end).

The HST set, including power cars 43155 and 43154, has been stored at the West Somerset Railway for the past year.

The railway has had previous running days with Castle Sets, which have been a big hit with visitors.

Information on the running times of the HST can be found on the West Somerset Railway’s website.

Other events, such as the visiting Flying Scotsman, will also be running in July. Further information on the railway’s events can be found here.
