Train operator Lumo has redesigned its staff uniform, looking at environmental impact and made it gender neutral.

The new gender neutral uniforms are being sent out to their Newcastle-based team first. This team welcomes passengers between London and Edinburgh daily.

Lumo has previously committed to making its company more sustainable and more inclusive, for which this is a key step.

Jermyn Street Design and Lumo have worked in collaboration to create the distinctive uniforms with their joint aims in mind. They used eco-friendly materials and ethically sourced fabrics, and even the packaging has been made more sustainable.

Staff members can now pick and choose style combinations in which they feel most comfortable, without being limited to the standard uniform.

“At Lumo we believe that everyone should feel seen, respected, and empowered to be themselves at work. Working closely with Jermyn Street Design, we’ve created something which allows our team to make their own decisions around their uniform, while also reflecting our responsibility to the planet.

“This collaboration has been about more than just clothing and has supported us in our mission to create a culture where individuality is celebrated and sustainability is a shared value.”

Jen Clare, Service Delivery Director at Lumo
